Private Online English Lessons for Kids in Dubai and the UAE: A Parent’s Guide

If you're looking for an online English teacher for your child in Dubai or elsewhere in the UAE, the number of options can be a little overwhelming. Some programs focus on schoolwork, some are group conversation classes, and others offer one-on-one lessons. They're not all trying to do the same thing.

Before you choose, think about what you'd actually like your child to feel more comfortable doing in English. That makes it much easier to find the right kind of class.

Start with one or two clear goals

Maybe your child understands English but gives very short answers. Maybe reading aloud is difficult, or they want more confidence speaking with someone outside their family. A young beginner has different needs from a teenager who already uses English in school.

You don't need a complicated assessment before a first lesson. Something as simple as 'I want her to answer in full sentences' or 'I'd like him to enjoy reading more' gives a teacher a helpful place to start.

Why one-to-one lessons can help

In a group lesson, every child has to share the speaking time. One-to-one classes give the teacher room to slow down, ask another question, or spend a little longer on something the student hasn't understood.

That doesn't mean private lessons are the right answer for everything. If you need help with a specific school exam or curriculum, ask the teacher about it first. General English practice and exam preparation aren't always the same service.

What I would ask before booking

Start with teaching experience, especially experience with children close to your child's age. Then ask what a typical lesson looks like. Is there a plan, or is it just a conversation from start to finish?

For younger learners, I'd expect a mix of pictures, simple sentence practice, listening, and speaking. Older students may need more reading and longer conversations. The lesson should feel appropriate for the student, not like the same worksheet for every age.

Think about timing before purchasing lessons

A 25-minute lesson can be easier to fit around school and other activities, but only if the time is realistic. If you're in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Sharjah, check that the booking calendar is showing the right local time before you confirm.

If you hope to continue once or twice a week, ask about arranging a regular time. It's easier for children to settle into lessons when they're part of the family's routine.

Take a trial lesson first

I think a first lesson should help parents decide whether the teacher and child are a good fit. Pay attention to how the teacher handles a hesitant answer. Does your child get to try speaking? Is there time to ask questions?

It's also the right time to ask about the classroom link, the lesson materials, and how future bookings work. You should feel clear on those details before paying for a larger package.

A little about Teacher Julie

I'm Julie, an American teacher with a degree in Elementary Education, a 120-hour TESOL certificate, and more than ten years of teaching experience. I work with children and teens ages 4 to 18 in private online English lessons that last 25 minutes.

I use the Abridge Academy curriculum and the Koala Go online classroom. Depending on the student, we'll work on reading, speaking, listening, phonics, vocabulary, or pronunciation. I want children to be comfortable trying, even when they don't have the answer straight away.

I offer a $5 introductory class. You can book a $5 introductory lesson to see available times, or contact me through the website if you're looking for a regular weekly appointment that isn't listed.

Common questions

Is the lesson taught in English? Yes. I adjust the language and activities to the student's level so they can follow along and participate.

Can my child take lessons from home? Yes. Lessons are online, and the booking confirmation includes the classroom link.

Can we have two lessons a week? That's possible when we can agree on two available times. We can talk about a schedule after the first lesson.
